WTA Eastbourne, Semi Final: Konta v Pliskova (12:30)

Eastbourne has been a bit of a mess this week. Rain delays have meant players have had to play more than 1 match in a day and with Wimbledon coming up next week we have seen many of the top players bailing out. Playing 2 matches in a day takes a lot out of them and that could cause problems next week.

Pliskova leads their previous meetings 5-1. They last met in October last year in Beijing. Konta won in a third set tie break.

Pliskova won at this stage last year in 3 sets. Their last 5 matches went to a deciding set with Konta winning the 1st set in 4 of those matches. She won the

1st set in all 3 of their grass matches.

Konta was comfortable in her first round win over Cirstea. Ostapenko gave her more problems in the next round and Konta eventually came through 6-4 in the third set. By the time we got to the quarter final stage they were playing more than a match a day and Kerber was not at her best. She is due to attempt to defend final ranking points at Wimbledon. Konta won their match in straight sets.

Pliskova was not broken in her opening win over Alison Riske. Peng was also beaten in straight sets but Pliskova’s 2nd serve was weak at times and she was broken 3 times in 2 tight sets.  In the quarter finals it was Kuznetsova who took their opening set in a tie break but Plskova easily won set 2. She took the deciding set 6-4.

Value on Konta to take at least a set. Lay Pliskova if she breaks first
