Due to start at 4:30 pm
Stephens 2.28, Ostapenko 1.77
Stephens won their only previous match. That was in the final in Miami in March last year. She won on a hard court in 2 sets.
Overall results favour Stephens in the last 12 months and also in 2019. Grass results favour Ostapenko.
Ostapenko reached the quarter finals last year and the semi finals at Wimbledon. She was not impressive in the last round but still won in straight sets over Buzarnescu who was 4-2 up in both sets.
Stephens hasn’t won a grass match since 2016. In recent seasons she only played Wimbledon in the grass season although she did reach the semi finals in Eastbourne in 2015.
We have a very good chance of seeing 3 sets. If Stephens is interested then she can win this but is likely to take time to get used to the court under match conditions. Back Ostapenko if she gets broken which is likely.
Update: Ostapenko didn’t hold serve in the first set. She managed to break serve once. Shen then didn’t lost a game in set 2! She raced to a 5-1 lead in the deciding set. She was broken serving for the match but broke Stephens in the next game.
Ostapenko won 1-6, 6-0, 6-3.
