Petra Kvitova 1.47, Belinda Bencic 3.05
Round Robin stage
Due to start at 12 noon.
Kvitova leads their previous matches 4-1. The last time they met was In Beijing last month. Kvitova won on a hard court in 2 sets. She won their only indoor match in February 2018 in straight sets.
Overall results are pretty even in the last year. Bencic has better indoor results.
Bencic played well in her 1st set with Barty but was struggling from set 2 with an injury that was affecting her movement. Barty was able to dominate the rest of the match. Bencic won the indoor title in Moscow 2 weeks ago although she didn’t play anyone inside the top 40.
Kvitova had a very close loss to Osaka in 3 sets. She has had a strong season winning 72% of hr matches. Last month she reached the quarter finals in Beijing and the semi finals in Wuhan, both on hard courts. She has played well on all surfaces though has only played 3 indoor matches.
The market seems to be assuming that Bencic is not fit. If Bencic isn’t 100% she is likely to go for it from the start as she won’t last 3 sets. Back Kvitova around 1.90.
Update: Bencic took the first set but Kvitova bounced back to take the second set 6-1. A close third set went to Bencic. She won 6-3, 1-6, 6-4.
