Head to heads are 1-1. They haven’t played since 2011 when Makarova won in straight sets on clay in Madrid. Wickmayer’s win was also on clay. She won in 2 sets in 2009.
Makarova reached the fourth round last year but she is really struggling to find some consistency on the dirt in 2016. Conditions in Paris are quite slow due to all the rain and that doesn’t help her too much.
Wickmayer isn’t breaking any record on clay this year either. Before her first round win over Dulgheru her only wins on this surface in 2016 were in Fed Cup. She lost in the first round last year to Svitolina.
Makarova starts around 1.45 . She needed 3 sets to beat Lepchenko in the last round and it won’t be a surprise if this one goes the distance too.
Back Makarova if Wickmayer gets an early break.
