WTA French Open, Quarter Final: Stephens v Konta

Due to start at 1 pm

Stephens 1.72, Konta 2.36

Konta has won both their previous matches.  The last time they met was on clay in Rome last month. She won in 3 sets. The other was in Brisbane in January this year. That was on a hard court and was over in straight sets.

Their 12 month overall results are quite even. Konta has the stronger results in 2019. Stephens has been better on clay in the last year but they are even in 2019. Stats for the tournament are pretty even.

Konta has dropped just 1 set in the tournament which was against Lauren Davis in the 2nd round. In the 4th round she beat Donna Vekic in straight sets but Vekic was poor. Konta played well but was made to look better than she actually was. Her second serve will need to improve today.

Stephens lost a set to Polona Hercog in the 3rd round. That was expected as Hercog has been playing well on clay. Stevens made a slow start against Garbine Muguruza in the 4th round but once she found her timing she played a superb match. She did struggle to serve out both sets. She was broken serving for set 1 and faced break points when serving for the match.

This should be close but having watched Stephens in the last round I have to favour her. Back her around 1.95.
