Halep has won 4 of their 5 previous meetings. They last met in July 2016 in Canada. Halep won in straight sets on a hard court. They have never met on clay.
Halep seemed to be going out of the tournament in the last round. She
was a set and 1-5 down against Svitolina but Svitolina relaxed, thinking the job was already done. Halep came back to take the set in a tie break. Svitolina didn’t win a game in the third set.
Pliskova won her semi final with Garcia in straight sets. She came under a lot of pressure from Garcia but was only broken once. She has played above her normal clay level in this tournament but Halep is likely to expose her lack of movement.
I see some value on Pliskova at the start. Lay Halep at the start and switch to her if Pliskova breaks and holds.
