WTA Kremlin Cup: Kuznetsova v Muchova

Svetlana Kuznetsova 2.20, Karolina Muchova 1.80

Due to start at 4:30 pm.

This will be their first meeting.

Stronger results for Muchova in 2019. She has also played a lot more matches. Both players have good indoor records but have not played indoors this season.

Kuznetsova won the title in 2016 and 2015 but has not played in Moscow since. She has missed quite a lot of 2019 but once the American hard court swing started in August she has shown some decent form on hard courts. She reached the 3rd round in Toronto and the final in Cincinnati. She had a disappointing 1st round loss to Kristie Ahn at the US Open. Her serve left a little to be desired in her 3 sets loss to Christine McHale last week in Beijing.

Muchova has played well on all surfaces this season. She reached the final in Prague on clay and made the quarter finals at Wimbledon on grass. She hasn’t been bad on hard courts either.  She reached the quarter finals at the New York International tournament and the 3rd round at the US Open where she lost to Serena Williams. Last month she took the title in Seoul on hard courts.

I think we have a very good chance of seeing 3 sets and we have some value on Kuznetsova. Lay Muchova if she breaks and remove liability at 1.75. I give Muchova a slight edge to win.

Update: Muchova broke first but Kuznetsova broke back 3 games later. Two more breaks for Muchova gave her the set. Muchova won 6-2, 6-3.
