Cirstea won their only previous meeting which was in September 2008. They played on a hard court in Tashkent and Rybarikova retired after losing the first set.
Overall results favour Rybarikova this year. She has won 75% of her matches compared to Cirstea’s 55%. Rybarikova’s indoor results in 2017 are also better and longer term indoor stats are stronger too.
Rybarikova had a lot of success in the first half of the season and mainly in ITF tournaments. She reached the third round at the US Open in August but since then has
been a little unlucky with her opponents. She retired in Beijing last week against Halep having beaten Bouchard in 2 sets in the previous round. This week she has not dropped a set though was favourite in both matches.
Cirstea reached the quarter finals in Seoul and also in Beijing last week where she beat Pliskova in straight sets and lost to Ostapenko in 2 close sets. Before this week she had lost all 3 of her indoor matches in 2017
Despite Cirstea’s strong recent form I give Rybarikova the edge indoors. Back her above 2.10
