WTA Miami Open, Fourth round: V. Williams v Konta

Venus’ serve could be her weak link tonight

Due to start at 9 pm.

V. Williams 2.64, Konta 1.59

Head to heads are 3-3. The last time they played was at Wimbledon in July last year. Williams won on grass in straight sets. Konta leads 3-1 on hard courts and has won their last 3 on this surface.

Venus has stronger overall results in the last 12 months and also in 2018. I don’t know what she was doing in the last round. She was 5-0 up on Bertens but lost the next 7 games. In the 3rd set Bertens served for the match at 5-4 but was broken and Venus took the set 7-5. There were 15 breaks of serve. Venus faced 19 break points and was broken 7 times. She will need to improve her serve today.

Konta
Johanna Konta

Konta won the title last year. Her form has not been great in recent months but she has been inspired in this tournament by being champ and has played well so far. She easily beat Mertens in the last round. She lost just 3 games and faced only 2 break points. She was broken once.

I do favour Konta to win. Venus will fight hard and we could see 3 sets. Back Konta after she gets broken or if she loses set 1.

Update: Venus had a set point in the first set but Konta saved it and went on to take the set. After that she was always behind.
Venus won 5-7, 6-1, 6-2.
