Defending champion Siegemund should get a lift being back in her home town.
Due to start at 7 pm
Strycova 2.14, Siegemund 1.83
Strycova won their only previous match. That was in October 2016 in Beijing. Strycova won in 3 sets on a hard court.
Siegemund has stronger clay results in the last year. She has not played a lot of tennis in the last 12 months. Her season started in mid March in an ITF clay tournament in Italy. She reached the quarter finals. She retired in Lugano 2 weeks ago. She is the defending champion. She also reached the final in 2016. She has had some injury issues which is obviously a concern but motivation should not be an issue for her.
Strycova has not played on clay this year. She started the season very strongly on hard courts. She reached quarter finals in Auckland and Sydney and made the fourth round at the Australian Open. Since then she has won 2 of her 6 matches.
I am banking on Siegemund getting a boost by being in her home town and being champion. Back her above 2.00.
Update: Siegemund almost threw away a 4-1 double break lead in the opening set but just managed to serve the set out. A double break gave her set two.
Siegemund won 6-4, 6-3.
