Safarova leads their previous matches 10-3. Their last one was on a hard court in February last year. She won in straight sets. She has won 7 of their last 8 matches.
Safarova beat defending champion Pliskova in straight sets in the semi final. She has finally managed to string some wins together this week and is gaining in confidence.
Stosur has also played well and came through in a third set tie break in the quarter final. Her serve has been pretty solid. I favoured her to beat Kuznetsova in the semis but Kuznetsova withdrew before the match. That means she will be more rested but the lack of court time may hurt her in the final.
Stosur’s weak side is definitely the backhand and that’s the reason for her poor record against left handers. A leftie with a big forehand is hitting to that backhand and Safarova’s forehand is one of the best.
I think this goes to 3 sets but have to favour Safarova to win. Back her if she is broken early.
