WTA Quebec 2013 – Final

Erakovic v Safarova

48th ranked Wild Card Safarova starts as favourite against 68th ranked NewZealander Erakovic.

They have played just once before which was over 4 years ago so has little relevance. For the record Safarova won that match 9-7 in the third set ( Australian Open)

Both players fully deserve their place in  the final. Erakovic had a surprisingly easy win over McHale in the semi final although relaxed a little early at 5-0 up in set 2 which allowed McHale to get 3 games back. She has twice come back from a set down this week.

Safarova lost the first set of her semi final with Bouchard but her experience brought her through. That was the only set she has lost this week although Lucic Baroni pushed her to 2 tie break sets in the second round.

Both players have appeared in the Quebec final before. Erakovic lost in 2011 and Safarova Lost in the final in 2009.

Erakovic has had to fight a little more than Safarova to get this far but has only played 8 more games. The benefit of being under pressure and coming through it far outweighs having to play a few more games in a week in my opinion. I believe Erakovic is better prepared to get the win.

I’ll be laying Safarova if she takes an early lead.
