Due to start at 7 pm
Safarova 1.40, Jabeur 3.40
This will be their first meeting.
Overall results are quite even this season. Slight edge to Safarova, 54% v 51% matches won.
Safarova reached the semi finals last season and won the title in 2013. Hopefully she will be motivated in a venue that she must have good memories of. She has been a little disappointing in the last 2 tournaments. She lost in 3 sets to Julia Goerges in the second round in Montreal after making it through the qualifying rounds. At the US Open she lost in the second round to Ashleigh Barty in straight sets. She didn’t play that badly but I had hoped she would put Barty under more pressure than she did.
Jabeur’s best results in 2018 have been on grass and clay. She also lost to Barty in straight sets. She had made it through the qualifying rounds. She has very little experience on carpet courts.
Wait for 1.70 on Safarova before backing her.
Update: Safarova lost the 1st set in a tie break. She recovered to take the 2nd set and took an early break lead in the deciding set. She wasn’t able to hold on.
Jabueur won 7-6, 3-6, 7-5.
