Babos 1.83, Van Uytvanck 2.16
Van Uytvanck won their only previous meeting. That was in March 2015 In Indian Wells, USA and she won in straight sets on a hard court.
Van Uytvanck has better overall results this season. She had tough matches in the opening 2 rounds. In the first round Zhao pushed her to a third set tie break. In the second round Erakovic put her under pressure with Van Uytvanck winning 6-4, 7-6.
Her quarter final and semi final were surprisingly easy with both Dolehide and Maria having awful days from the service line despite both having played extremely well earlier in the week. Van Uytvanck only faced 1 break point in those 2 matches and was not broken.
Babos has never lost on carpet. I expected Safarova to beat her in the semi final but Babos really raised her game and did not face a single break point. She had what should have been comfortable matches in the earlier rounds but needed 3 sets in her first 2 matches.
Stats this week favour Van Uytvanck. Lay Babos if she breaks. I think we have a very good chance of 3 sets. The value is on Van Uytvanck to win.
Update: The first 2 sets were very tight. Babos won a late break to take the first set. Van Uytvanck bounced back to take a break of serve in set 2 which she just about managed to hold on to. She ran away with the deciding set.
Van Uytvanck won 5-7, 7-4, 6-1.
