Dayana Yastremska 1.82, Aryna Sabalenka 2.18
Yastremska won their only previous meeting. That was in September 2017 in an ITF semi Final in Russia. She won on a indoor hard court in three sets. Overall results are very even in the last 12 months and also in 2019. Clay results strongly favour Yastremska in the last year. Sabalenka has just one more win than her on clay in 2019.
Stats for the tournament favour Yastremska on serve and Sabalenka on return.
Yastremska has not lost a set so far. I had expected both Ferro and Stosur to give her more problems than they did. Stosur has a good record in Strasbourg and had played well in the first round but took just two games from Yastremska. Ferro had also played well this week but only put limited pressure on Dayana in the quarter final.
Sabalenka has not had great results on clay. She has certainly lifted her level this week. She didn’t drop a set in her first two matches but needed three sets to beat Monica Puig in the quarter finals. Her second serve came under a lot of pressure and she won just 38% of points on it.
Three sets seem likely. Back Yastremska around 2.20.
Update: Yastremska broke at the start of the match but was broken straight back. Another break gave Yastremska the set. A single break in the 3rd game of set 2 was enough to give Yastremska the match. 6-4, 6-4.
