This will be their first meeting.
On hard courts Sabalenka has the advantage. She has had some decent weeks in 2017 though they were all in ITF tournaments. She played well to easily beat Rodina in the last round. Her first serve was excellent and found the target 70% of the time. She won 79% of points of first serve points. Her second serve was a little weak and she won just 39% of points on that. She faced 6 break points which were all saved.
Maria doesn’t have a great record on hard courts this season. She won 8 of 21. She also performed well in the last round beating Diatchenko in 2 sets. Her first serve percentage was a little lower than Sabalenka’s at 59% but she won an impressive 25 of 29 points on it. Her second serve was slightly better than Sabalenka’s with 40% of points won. She was broken just once from 3 break points.
This should be a tight match. Some value on Sabalenka as underdog to take at least a set. I give her the edge to win the match. Lay Maria if she breaks first or takes set 1.
