Kerber leads their previous meetings 4-2. They played 3 times last year. Kerber won their last 2 on a hard court and on grass and Pliskova won on a hard court. Their last 2 matches were won by Kerber in 3 sets.
Pliskova played well against Muguruza in the semi final although Muguruza had a very bad day. She was lacking in confidence and was struggling to deal with Pliskova’s power. Plisk served well and was hitting her ground strokes very cleanly.
Kerber had looked pretty tired in her 3 sets win over Suarez Navarro in the quarter final. Halep had been in decent form up until the semi final but she started slowly against Kerber and was broken first. She managed to break back but the rain delay affected her more than Kerber and when they resumed it was Kerber who took 3 games and the set. If Kerber wins she is world number 1. I thought that might have affected her in the semi final but it didn’t appear to.
This could go to 3 sets as long as Pliskova serves well but I have to go with Kerber for the title. Hopefully her energy doesn’t disappear at the last hurdle. Back her if she is broken first
