WTA Wimbledon, First Round: Vekic v Riske

Due to start at 6 pm

Vekic 1.61, Riske 2.50

Donna Vekic leads their previous matches 2-1. The last time they played was on grass in Birmingham in June 2017. Alison Riske won in straight sets. Both Vekic’s wins were on hard courts.

Overall results in the last 12 months and in 2019 favour Vekic. Riske has better grass results.

Vekic is also strong on grass. She made the 4th round at Wimbledon last year. This season she reached the final in Nottingham losing in a 3rd set tie break to Caroline Garcia.

Riske reached the third round at Wimbledon in 2017. She wasn’t in her best form last year and lost to Bencic in 3 sets in the 2nd round. In June 2019 she won an ITF grass title in Surbiton, GBR and the following week took the grass title in Hertogenbosch.

We have some value on Riske. There is a good chance of us seeing 3 sets. Lay Vekic if she breaks first. Lay the first set winner.

Update: Riske broke at the start but Vekic took the 1st set. A single break gave Riske the 2nd set. Vekic broke first in set 3 but 2 breaks for Riske gave her the win. 3-6, 6-3, 7-5
