Trading WTA Limoges Challenger, Bucsa v Kalinina 1
Trading Tips entry for this match

Bucsa served first and was broken to 15. Her price went to 1.60. Often, if my favoured player gets broken early and doesn’t reach my target price, I will back them with reduced stake. 1.60 was a poor price to enter so I waited.

Kalinina had an easy hold to 15. Bucsa’s price went to 1.76. I try not to read too much into the first 2 games but I wasn’t in a rush to enter just yet. Bucsa was broken to 30 to trail 0-3. I backed Bucsa at 2.18.

In the next game, Kalinina went 0-40 down. I removed a little liability at 1.78. Kalinina saved 2 of the break points but was broken on the 3rd one. The price was still 1.78. I gave Bucsa chance to hold. She had only won 3 points in her first 2 service games so it was far from certain. She held to 15. Her price moved to 1.59. I wanted to hold out for the 1.50 price to remove the remaining liability.

Kalinina went 0-15 behind and Bucsa’s price hit 1.51 and remove my liability, leaving the green on Bucsa. Kalinina held to 30 to lead 4-2. In the next game, Bucsa held to 0. The next 2 games were holds to 15. Kalinina served for the set at 5-4 and held to 30.

Bucsa’s price reached 2.08 at the end of the set. She was serving first in the second set. I already had the free bet on her so did nothing. She was broken to 0! I laid Kalinina at 1.47. She now led by a set and a break which is usually a good time to lay the leading player. Kalinina went 0-30 behind in the next game. She recovered to 30-30 but was broken to 30. To remove liability again, I laid Bucsa at 2.24.

In the next game, Bucsa was broken again to 0! There was no stream for the match but maybe she was struggling physically. I didn’t want to enter again. I had the choice of staying with the free bet or hedging. I hedged at 1.39 on Kalinina’s ladder.

For the rest of the set, Kalinina did not face another break point. When Bucsa served at 2-4, She went 0-40 down. She saved 4 bp’s in that game but held. I wondered if that would be a turning point but Kalinina held to 30 in the next game and then broke Bucsa again to take the set and the match.

Kalinina won 6-4, 6-3.

My prediction of the result was completely wrong but there were enough swings to come away with a profit.

No breaks or break points in the first 3 games. Kalinina served at 1-2 and was broken to 30. I backed Kalinina at 2.30.

In the next game, Parks was broken to 30. I removed some of my liability at 1.77. In the next game, Kalinina had a hold to 0 and I removed all liability at 1.59, leaving the green on Kalinina.

The next 4 games were easy holds. Parks served at 5-5 and was broken. Kalinina’s last 2 service games had been easy holds. Normally, I would have waited for the end of the set before laying her. As I has some green already, I laid Kalinina at 1.26 and it was risk free.

Kalinina went 0-30 behind but ended up holding to 30 to take the set. Her price dropped to 1.21. I kept my position which was green on Kalinina and a larger green on Parks.

Parks served first in set 2 and held to 15. it was around this time that the scoreboards seemed to lose the plot, although the bet365 scoreboard showed correctly that Parks then easily broken Kalinina to lead 2-0. Other scoreboards, including the scoreboard on the bet365 live stream showed a completely different score. Kalinina’s price dropped to 1.16 when she was 2-0 down! This was frustrating as the set was going my way, but the market wasn’t. I’m not sure why there was so much confusion as there was a live stream and the umpire was (obviously) calling the correct score! To be fair to Bet365, they had the correct score throughout the whole match.

Parks then held easily. In the 2nd game of the set, Kalinina was doubled over in pain at least twice. She was broken again in the next game and Parks was up 4-0. The market still didn’t know what was happening. Kalinina’s price was 1.45 at 0-4. It should have been nearer to 1.70.

Parks held serve to lead 5-0. Kalinina was at 1.53. She should have been well above her stats price of 1.56. Kalinina finally held serve to get to 1-5. Parks then easily served out the set. I hedged evenly at 1.70 as Parks called for a medical time out for a leg issue.

I didn’t bother with the deciding set. Kalinina had really struggled in that second set and now, Parks was perhaps injured.
In the third set, Kalinina got an early break and that would be the only break of the set.

Kalinina won 7-5, 1-6, 6-3.
