WTA Shenzhen, Semi Final: Rybakina v Kr Pliskova

Elena Rybakina 1.73, Kristyna Pliskova 2.34

Due to start at 6:30 am

This will be their first meeting.

Much stronger overall results for Rybakina in the last year. Hard court results also favour her.

Rybakina beat Elise Mertens in 3 sets in the last round. She started as underdog in that match and also in her first round match with Saisai Zheng. She won that one in 3 sets. She won 69% of her hard court matches last season.

Pliskova has not lost a set so far. She beat Defending champ Aryna Sabalenka in the 2nd round. She has been serving extremely well. She won 55% of her hard court matches last year. She has been in the Shenzhen quarter finals twice before but had never made the semi finals until now.

Stats for the tournament favour Pliskova on serve and Rybakina on return. Pliskova has held 97% of her service games. Back Rybakina around 1.90 .

Update: Rybakina faced an early break point but held and easily took the first set. A single late break in set 2 gave her the match.
Rybakina won 6-2, 7-5.

WTA Finals: Pliskova v Andreescu

Karolina Pliskova 2.46, Bianca Andreescu 1.67

Round Robin stage

Due to start at 12 noon.

Andreescu won their only previous meeting which was in the quarter finals of the Rogers Cup in Canada. She won on a hard court in 3 sets.  Overall results favour Andreescu in 2019. There is very little between them indoors.

They both lost their opening match and will be keen to get the win today to stay in with a chance of qualifying.

Pliskova’s serve was pretty strong in her loss to Svitolina. She was only broken twice. She reached the semi finals at the WTA Finals in Singapore last season. She also made the semi finals in 2017.

Andreescu has had an amazing season. She has only lost 7 matches and won her first major title at the US Open. She lost a very tight match to Halep in 3 sets. Both players came under a lot of pressure in that match and there were 13 breaks of serve.

I see some value on Pliskova today and she should be able to take at least a set. Lay Andreescu around 1.45 and remove liability at 1.90. Its worth laying the set 1 winner but if you do, remove liability after a break of serve in your favour.
