Previews from the 2nd round of qualifying in the women’s tournament in Indian Wells:

18:30 – Torro Flor v Zhu

They have never met. The 6 month stats are very even. The only category with a significant difference is service holds which Zhu leads.

Torro Flor hasn’t had the best season so far but her more recent form has been improving. She served well in her last match though Crawford wasn’t much competition.

Zhu is having a decent season and has just 2 losses when starting below 3.00 . Her serve stats for her last match were good but she faced 9 break points.

This looks like a 3 setter. Zhu’s a real fighter and I give her a slight edge. She often makes a slow start so wait a couple of games before entering on her.

21:15 – Babos v Van Uytvanck

They have never met. The 6 month stats don’t favour either player although Babos has a better Win/Loss record in that time period. It’s a small sample but Babos has performed much better against common opponents.

Babos reached the second round last week as a qualifier losing to Errani.  Van Uytvanck can put in good performances against top 100 opposition but doesn’t win many.

I am favouring Babos but not at her SP of 1.47 . Back Babos when a break behind.

21:30 – Konta v Kozlova

hey have never met.

Both served exceptionally well in their last match. Konta faced just 2 break points against Doi and Kozlova didn’t face any at all against Jaksic.

I don’t expect many breaks in this one and if there was a market for over 20.5 games I would take it. Huge value on Konta as this is a coin toss as long as she continues to serve well. I do think Doi was injured yesterday but Konta gave her nothing.
