Well I wasn’t expecting Dolgopolov to beat Nadal or Giorgi to beat Sharapova! What’s going to happen tonight??
20:00 – We have two very interesting matches at 8pm. Gasquet takes on Verdasco and Jankovic is looking to get an overdue win over Wozniacki.
Gasquet won their only recent match which was at the Paris Masters in October. He won in 3 tight sets. He leads the head to heads 8-6 and has won 3 of their last 4 meetings.
Gasquet had the easier first match winning the first set 6-0 and he was 2-0 up when Gabashvili retired. Verdasco had to work a lot harder winning 7-5, 7-5 over Zeballos.
That match could help Verdasco to get used to the courts which seem to be giving the players some problems.
I want to back Gasquet a break behind.
Jankovic has lost the last 5 meetings with Wozniacki. They haven’t completed a match for over 2 years though and their fortunes in the last 12 months have been quite different. Jankovic has found some of her old consistency and whilst Woz hasn’t exactly been poor her ranking has dropped outside the top 10.
Jankovic starts as slight favourite at 1.80 which I think is about right. This should be a tight match but I think she will take the win.
22:00 – Gulbis and Dimitrov meet for the third time in a month. The first two matches were shared with Dimitrov taking the latest one in the quarter final in Acapulco.
Both had fairly routine matches in the last round.
This is bound to be another break dominated match. At least 1 tie break is likely. Dimitrov finished the job off in Acapulco beating Murray and Anderson (both in third set tie breaks) to take the title. I am favouring him to get another win today.
I don’t expect an entertaining match unless Dimitrov has his Monfils wig on and starts hitting shots between his legs which is a bad habit he has taken to recently. I have no doubt they will both be taking this one very seriously.
Dimitrov in 3 sets.
