I wasn’t in the right frame of mind yesterday to trade. I had tipped both Golubev and Nieminen for the Shark Tips service and was also trading them. They didn’t help my mood as Paire rose from the ashes from a 1-6 first set to win in a third set tie break against Golubev and Nieminen seemed to have weathered the Kamke storm before losing in 3 sets. I was in profit on both but was getting more agitated than normal. I decided to call it a day although couldn’t’ resist backing Grace Min against Pavlyuchenkova. She was my third tip of the day and cruised through the opening set. Pavlyuchenkova went a break ahead in the second set but only held serve twice in the set.
Hopefully an afternoon off was all I needed.
ATP Hamburg, 11:30 – Paire started his match yesterday as if he was still having problems with his knee. he looked like he didn’t want to be there. He lost the first set 6-1 and it looked for the world it was going to be an easy win for Golubev. Then Golubev switched off at the start of set 2 and Paire gained some confidence. He won the match in a third set tie break.
Giraldo had a great week last week reaching the quarter finals to back up his 3rd round at Wimbledon.
Giraldo starts at 1.44 and he will give Paire lots of problems today. Head to heads are 1-1 but they have never played on clay which is Giraldo’s best surface. I am looking to back him but I want a price nearer 1.70 before I do.
WTA Swedish Open, 14:00 – Cornet starts at 1.24 against Kontaveit.
This is Cornet’s first match since her 4th round finish at Wimbledon. Kontaveit has played 2 qualifying rounds so will be used to the courts and conditions.
Ideally we get a slow start from Cornet to give a more worthwhile price to back her.
WTA Istanbul Cup, 16:00 – Vinci reached the final last week in Bucharest. She has won just 2 of her last 10 hard court matches.
I’m not sure Tatishvili is the best person to take advantage of this situation. However Vinci starts at 1.40 and if I can get an early lay below 1.20 it is worth a go.
WTA Istanbul Cup, 20:00 – The late match in the WTA has Wozniacki against Bencic.
Woz is probably getting a decent wedge in appearance money for this one. She starts at 1.36 which is a fair price if she is here to win.
Bencic reached the third round at Wimbledon and is a great prospect for the future and could push that Wozniacki price a fair bit higher in the early games. A lay below 1.25 might not be a terrible plan and limits the damage if Wozniacki cruises through the set.
This is one you need to watch if Wozniacki goes behind to try to work out if she is here for the win or the shopping.
