17th June 2014

Having stayed up to watch the USA v Ghana match I slept through my alarm this morning.

Emails have gone out to Shark Tips and Wins a Set subscribers ( although about an hour late) so it hasn’t left me a huge amount of time for the blog post.I will add what I can before the matches start at 10:00 and will add some when I get a gap between trades.

In the 10am matches I would normally give Falla a good chance against Melzer but my concern today is that he played the final in Halle just 2 days ago. I will wait to lay Melzer below 1.50 but I won’t be using full stakes.

The last time Suarez Navarro and Zahlavova Strycova met the Spaniard won 6-0, 6-0. Obviously I don’t expect a repeat of that scoreline as we are on grass which levels things a little but BZS is another finalist from Sunday. Suarez Navarro leads the head to heads 5-1 and i just can’t see an upset in this one.

WTA Eastbourne, 13:00Azarenka returns to the tour after her injury. In the past she has been slow to regain her best form after an absence so Giorgi could give her a few problems today. That is reflected in the starting prices with Azarenka opening at  1.48 .

She will obviously have been training hard but that’s not the same as match practice. I won’t be laying at that price. If she had started sub 1.20 then it would have been a lay but I will wait to see what happens in the opening games. Her timing may be well off in the early games but I don’t feel she will need to be at her best to beat Giorgi. Expect a few double faults from both sides of the net!

WTA Eastbourne,  15:00Errani has had an excellent clay season as you would expect. She doesn’t have the same success on grass and in the last 3 seasons only Wimbledon in 2012 has seen her progress beyond the second round.

Davis reached the third round in Birmingham before she lost to eventual champion Ivanovic. She has won through 3 qualifying rounds to reach the main draw and beat Pliskova in 3 sets in her last match.

As this is Errani’s first game on the grass this year she could easily make a slow start. She starts at 1.60 which is no price to be laying her. I will wait for her price to rise to nearer 1.80 before backing her but not with full stake. I will be watching for signs that she isn’t adjusting to the grass quickly enough so I can switch to Davis.
