Irving Challenger, 18:00 – Darcis v Edmund
They have never met. The 3 month stats favour Darcis.
Darcis beat top seed Chardy in the last round. he served very well and Chardy struggled on his second serve. Darcis faced 4 break points and saved 3 of them.
Edmund is also in good form and has come through the qualification rounds. He played a poor opening set in the last round and went a break behind at the start of the second set. It was a good fight back after that but was helped by Schwartzman struggling on serve.
Wait for a better price on Darcis.
ATP BNP Paribas Open, 21:00 – Raonic v Nadal
Nadal leads the head to heads 5-0. Their most recent meeting was in 2014 on a hard court and went to 3 sets. That was the only time Raonic has taken a set.
Raonic seems to be hitting his ground strokes well. His first serve percentage was below 50% against Robredo and he MUST improve that with Nadal on the other side of the net. If he can then he can push Nadal really close today.
Nadal’s first serve percentage was 70% against Simon. He also won 73% of points on that first serve and 57% on his second serve.
The slow courts would appear to favour Nadal and he will have all the time he needs to construct the points. The sets will be close. The price looks fair on Nadal but as ever I will wait as if the opening set is close his price will begin to creep up.
Nadal to win in 3.
