ATP Argentina Open, 16:45 – Nieminen v Olivo
They have never met. The 6 month stats favour Nieminen but Olivo’s serve can keep it close.
Nieminen reached the third round of the Australian Open losing to Wawrinka. He didn’t look too impressive last week in Rio. He needed 3 tight sets to beat a qualifier.
Olivo is the local player. He reached the final of a Challenger clay event a couple of weeks ago but retired in the final. he plays almost exclusively on clay.
I have to favour Nieminen as the player with the greater experience but it won’t be easy for him at all.
WTA Abierto Mexicano Open, 22:00 – Stephens v Larsson
Larson leads the head to heads 1-0. That was at last season’s US Open. She won in 3 sets.
The 6 month stats all favour Larsson. Stephens has done nothing this year to justify her price. However, Larsson may be tired after a rare deep run last week and she is also making the transition from clay to hard courts.
This can go either way but Stephens might get lucky if Larsson is fatigued. It could be just what the American needs to jump start her season..
No value at SP but if I can get on Stephens when she is an early break behind I will.
ATP Argentina Open, Midnight, Andujar v Almagro
Almagro leads 3-0. He won them all in 2 sets. They haven’t played on clay since 2011.
Almagro has played well after a slow start since he returned from injury. His serve has been very solid. He reached the quarter finals in Sao Paolo where he lost to Cuevas when he he ran out of energy in the third set. He lost against to Cuevas in his next match, again in 3 sets.
Andujar’s form has been pretty poor this year. If he is to find some form it is likely to be on clay but he has a tough task today. Look for a slightly better price on Almagro in play.
