The previous post is a guest post by Matchstat.com . Personally I wouldn’t class Lopez as a clay court specialist but everyone is entitled to their opinion.
Today’s previews will be posted after lunch. I have just finished previewing all today’s 36 matches for the Daily Trading Spreadsheet. Get yours at http://blog.tradesharktennis.com/trading-spreadsheet
WTA Miami Open, 16:30 – Erakovic v Gavrilova
They have never met. This season’s stats favour Gavrilova.
Erakovic served well in her first qualifying round match but not so well in the second. Perhaps she took the win over Lino for granted and wasn’t as focused.
Gavrilova reached the second round in Indian Wells and took Halep to 3 sets.
Their starting prices look about right although if Erakovic can serve at her best she can take this. The second serves will come under attack from both players and we should see a lot of chances to break. Erakovic has been the least wasteful of break points recently.
Three sets very possible. I give a slight edge to Gavrilova. Back her when she is a break behind.
WTA Miami Open, 16:45 – Watson v Rodina
Rodina leads the head to heads 2-0. They haven’t played since 2011.
Watson reached the 4th round in Indian Wells. In the past after a good week her form dips for the next 2 or 3 events. She will learn to deal with those situations as she gets more success but I think she is worth a lay today. She starts around 1.48
ATP Miami Open, 20:00 – Smyczek v Menendez Maceiras
Smyczek leads the head to heads 1-0. That was in 2013 on grass and he won in 2 sets.
Smyczek reached the final of the Irving Challenger last week.
Menendez Maceiras has been playing well on Challenger hard courts. He came through both his qualifying matches this week in 3 sets.
The only doubt I have about Smyczek taking this is his energy levels after his long week. He played 5 matches and the final was a 3 setter. I think at least we will see him trade a fair bit higher than 1.32 and he is worth a lay.
WTA Miami Open, 21:45 – Davis v Karatantcheva
This looks like a 3 setter.
Karatantcheva is hitting too many double faults but otherwise playing well.
Davis hasn’t found her form yet in 2015 but home advantage could help her do that today. She reached the second round in Indian Wells and took Jankovic to 3 sets.
I think Davis takes a tight match. We should have many breaks of serve. Back Davis when she is a break behind. She often starts matches slowly.
Davis starts around 1.77
