WTA Porsche Grand Prix, 13:30 – Kerber v Wozniacki
Kerber leads the head to heads 5-4. She won their only previous clay meeting which was in this tournament in 2012.
My selection process has under rated Wozniacki this week due to her poor clay form in recent seasons. I am not convinced her improvement this week is due to Sanchez Vicario unless her advice has had some placebo-like effect. Maybe Sanchez Vicario blessed that headband that Woznicki has bizarrely started wearing.
Kerber has a poor record in finals although she won in Charleston earlier this season. This is her first final in Germany and I think the weight of expectation will be too much for her. She has played some superb tennis this week but we have seen that from her before only for her to flop in the final.
Three sets look likely. I am going for a part stake on Woznicki at the start. Add the rest if she goes a break behind.
ATP Barcelona Open, 16:30 – Nishikori v Andujar
Nishikori leads 2-1. Andujar won their only clay meeting in 2013.
I expected Ferrer to be in this final. Andujar beat him in straight sets. He has been impressive this week. He needed a good tournament to get his confidence up and kick start what has been a poor season.
Nishikori won the title last year and has looked very focused. He has lost just 1 set which was to Bautista Agut. I expected Klizan to give him a tough time in the semi final but it was one way traffic. Nishikori is priced too low given their history and Andujar’s form this week.
Lay Nishikori for a trade. I expect him to defend his title but he will probably need 3 sets.
