ATP German Tennis Championships, 14:00 – Almagro v Ramos
Almagro leads their previous matches 4-0. The most recent was in February this year. That was on clay and he won in 2 sets. Ramos has only won 1 set which was on an indoor hard court in 2012.
Both players have shown some good form this year but both can have an off day at any time. Almagro beat Verdasco last week but was then very poor against Istomin. Ramos won a Challenger title on clay 2 weeks ago. Not surprisingly he was a little flat last week and didn’t cause Robredo the problems that I expected.
Almagro plays a risky tactic in opening sets and tries to get the job done with a late break. Ramos should be rested after an early exit last week and I think he can make a fight of this.
I will back Almagro when he is a break behind.
WTA Brasil Tennis Cup , 16:00 – Ormaechea v Lim
Ormaechea isn’t too far from home. She hasn’t done well in main tour clay matches this year but her form started to improve last month. She won an ITF title on clay and also another reached another quarter final. The standard of her opposition was low.
Lim played well 2 weeks ago in Sweden. She beat Dominguez Lino and took Putintseva to 3 sets.
I have to favour Lim today but I will not back her below 2.00
