ATP Valencia, 12:30 – Przysiezny v Daniel
We have 2 qualifiers who have never met before.
I am favouring Daniel for the win even though he has been playing a lot of clay events prior to this one. He lives nearby so may have family in the stadium.
Przysiezny hasn’t had much recent success. He has played the occasional good set against decent opposition.
A tight match is expected. We can easily get 3 sets. It will be tough to trade as I suspect no one has a clear view of who wins this one and the traders will over react to a player taking a lead or getting break point. I might just leave this one unless the opening set is close and I will lay the set winner.
My gut feeling is for a Daniel win.
ATP Swiss Open, 19:00 – Gulbis v Isner
Gulbis leads the head to heads 3-2. The most recent was earlier this month on an indoor hard court. Gulbis won in 3 sets. His other 2 wins were on clay and grass in 2013 and 2008.
Gulbis had an excellent week last week reaching the semi finals, beating Karlovic and Isner. He has never won a match in Basel and I think he will be happy with his performance last week and be ready for a holiday.
Isner has only played Basel twice in 2009 and 2010 and reached the 2nd round each time.
I think Gulbis will go for it from the start but I don’t see him fighting back if he loses set 1.
Back Isner if Gulbis does take the 1st set.
