WTA Katowicz, 11:00 – Vinci is defending champion so won’t be lacking in motivation in a week where a lot of players don’t seem to care too much based on some of yesterday’s matches.
She has played Pervak just once which was in Indian Wells last season. She won in straight sets. She has had a poor start to 2014 with just 1 win. Since that win over Keys she has lost both her matches but took them both to a third set.
Pervak has been busy on the ITF circuit with a final and two semi finals in her last 3 events. She has also had to win three qualifying rounds to get to the main draw this week so she might be feeling ready for a short rest.
Vinci starts at 1.50 . I think if she can get her nose in front Pervak might start to feel her heavy legs a little more. Aches and pains hurt more when you’re losing.
I don’t think 1.50 is a bad price on Vinci but an early break for Pervak would be nice to top up at a better price.
WTA Bogota, 16:30 – Begu is on a remarkable run in ITF tournaments. She reached three finals in March and won two of them. Her opponents in those events were no superstars but it will have boosted her confidence.
Shmiedlova also won an ITF event in March and she was up against better players. She lost against Vesnina in the first round in Charleston.
I give a slight edge to Begu in this one and her SP of 1.86 looks fair. She should be stronger on serve and I expect Schmiedlova to get a little frustrated if she isn’t able to get that break through.
