Haas won their only previous meeting. That was also on clay at the French Open in May 2012. He won in straight sets.
Haas has played well this season. His problem has been match fitness. He is now close to the level required to compete at the top level.and his body isn’t letting him
down. He recently took Jack Sock and Tomas Berdych to 3 sets on clay. He has a good record in this tournament. His last visit was in 2014 and he reached the semi finals. In 2013 he won the title and it was another semi in 2012.
Clay is not Stakhovsky’s favourite surface. He did play well at times in Budapest recently where he lost in the qualifying rounds but reached the second round of the main draw as Lucky Loser. He pushed Lorenzi to 3 sets.
It looks a fair price on Haas here but I would wait for him to face a break point before backing him.
Update: Haas won 1-6, 6-3, 6-4.
