Round Robin Stage
Alexander Zverev 1.73, Alex De Minaur 2.34
Due to start at 9 am
Zverev has won all 4 of their previous matches. They last met in a hard court quarter final in Acapulco, Mexico in February last year. He won in straight sets. All their matches have been on hard courts. The last 3 matches were in straight sets. Their first meeting in 2018 went to a 5th set tie break.
Their overall results are quite even in the last 12 months. De Minaur was slightly better on hard courts. Both players ended the season strongly.
Zverev reached the final at the Shanghai Masters in October and finished the season by reaching the semi finals of the ATP World Tour Finals.
De Minaur made the final in Basel on indoor courts in September. He then reached the final of the Next Gen tournament, also indoors in November and won all 3 of his matches at the Davis Cup.
De Minaur has home advantage. The sets are going to be very close. Both men started the 2019 season in good form. There is a good chance that this goes to 3 sets.
Back Zverev around 2.00. Lay the set 1 winner.
Zverev took the first set. He looked strong at the start and was a double break up at 5-2. He lost one of the breaks but held on. He then broke the De Minaur serve in the first game of set 2. De Minaur eventually broke back for 4-4 and took the set in a tie break.
Zverev was very poor in the deciding set. Perhaps he didn’t cope with the heat well.
De Minaur won 4-6, 7-6, 6-2.
