ATP Hall of Fame Championships, Newport, 2nd round: Dancevic v Karlovic (16:00)

Some unexpected results in the opening matches in Newport yesterday. The later games went more with form.

These two player have met 3 times and surprisingly it is Dancevic who leads 2-1. He won their most recent match which was at Wimbledon in 2014. He won in straight sets. His second win was in 2013 when Karlovic retired at 1 set all.  Karlovic won in 2007 on a hard court in Miami. That went to 3 sets.

Karlovic reached the final last year and also in 2014. He lost both finals in third set tie breaks! He has had a mixed season with some of his best form coming on clay, his weakest surface.

Both have good serves and both are not the best returners on tour. We can expect tie breaks.

Dancevic had a solid straight sets win over American Ryan Harrison yesterday and he has come through the qualifying rounds where 4 of his 6 sets went to tie breaks.

Karlovic starts around 1.32 which is low considering the type of match this will be. I think it is worth a lay at the start and we should at least get a chance to reduce our liability as we approach the tie break.

Karlovic to win in 3 tie breaks!
