ATP Rome Masters: Murray v Fognini (8pm)

Murray leads their previous meetings 3-2. They last played in August last year at the Rio Olympics. Murray won in 3 sets on a hard court. They have played twice on clay with Fognini winning in straight sets in a Davis Cup tie in 2014 and Murray winning in straight sets in 2009.

Will the crowd try to lift Foggy against the world number 1? Of course they will try but will he give a toss if they do?

This could be a real battle in Rome

Murray lost a lot of points when he went out of Madrid early. He had reached the final in Madrid last year losing to Djokovic in the final. The following week he got revenge for that defeat by beating Djokovic in the Rome Final. He really won’t want another early exit.  That adds pressure as he is not 100% right now.

Fognini has had a very poor clay season so far.  He lost his first matches in Monte Carlo, Budapest and Munich. He played better tennis in Madrid and beat Sousa before Taking Nadal to 3 sets.

If Fognini gets inspired he has the clay game to win this or at least take a set. Back Murray if he gets broken. He has a lot to play for today.
