A bit of a strange night last night with some unexpected scores. Clearly a lot of players aren’t as prepared for the season as perhaps they should be.
Tonight we have a lot of sub 1.15 favourites. That is great if you can find the ones to lay. The best of 5 format for the mens will usually reduce the number of freak results but that doesn’t mean that players don’t lose opening sets that they are expected to take.
Cibulkova can struggle with serve early in matches and she starts at 1.13 . Savinykh has won her qualifying matches so is used to the conditions and surface. I don’t think anyone expects a shock result but there’s every chance we see a higher price. Its a cheap enough lay.
Update: No one expected it but we got it! Cibulkova was broken straight away and whilst she fought back Savinkh never gave up and won 7-6, 6-4.
Is Janowicz really a 1.22 player? Devvarman claims he is finally over his injury and beat Phau in straight sets in round 1 which is no mean achievement. Worth a lay here.
Update: Devvarman took a 2 set lead but it was Janowicz who edged it in 5 sets.
Janowicz won 6-7, 3-6, 6-1, 6-0, 7-5.
Heather Watson wasn’t too impressive against Cadantu but won through in 3 sets. She had an MTO in the second set and was perhaps suffering from the effects of the heat. 1.65 on Pervak does suggest that Watson isn’t 100% but I will be laying Pervak as I expect Watson to battle. Hopefully we can get out before the end of the opening set is complete. No need to push our luck with so many games available. I think if Watson appears ok at the start the market will quickly adjust in her favour.
Update: Watson was broken early but as expected put up a great fight. The first 2 tight sets were shared but Watson was in full control in the 3rd.
Watson won 4-6, 7-6, 6-2.
