When picking matched from the opening batch be careful to look for games with at least 50K matched on them, preferably more.
There will be people looking for suitable 15-40 matches and I would recommend the following ones:
Midnight – Zheng v Peng
Midnight – Paermentier v Baltacha ( liquidity may be too low)
06:00 – Chan v Kanepi
Other matches for you night owls………
Midnight – Stepankek v Karlovic
Rankings are 13 and 37. Head to heads are 3-0 to Stepanek.
Stepanek lost in the final a week ago to Roddick. He took the American to 2 tiebreak sets even though in the second set he was down and out at 5-2. He was hampered slightly that day by a problem with contact lenses.
Karlovic has the big serve but will need a lot more than that to get past Stepanek. At the recent Qatar Open he took Davydenko to 2 tie break sets in the quarter finals.
Watch the first 2 or 3 games to see who is serving best. Back either or both on their own sevice games.
The first set could well be a tie break so be wary of leaving a back bet open to long. You could get stuck with a red figure on the wrong side.
Stepanek is favourite to progress to round 2.
Update:Very close one! Stepanek took the first set very easily but Karlovic pulled it back level with set won in a tie break.
It went down to a 5th set with Karlovic just coming out on top.
Karlovic won 2-6, 7-6, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
04:00 – Gicquel v Bolelli
Rankings are 58 and 95. Head to heads are 1-1.
Gicquel has started the season in better form than his opponent although Bolelli was unlucky to get Nadal in his opening match.
Bolelli has the ability to give most players a run for their money but his confidence won’t be great as its a while since he experienced that winning feeling.
Gicquel made it to the quarter finals in the Henineken Open where he was easily beaten by Kohlschreiber.
Options today are to back Gicquel on serve or back him from the start of the match. Green up at the end of the first set. If backing from the start make sure you have your plan for if he goes behind.
Gicquel should win in straight sets.
Update: This match was a victim of the rain delays. Hopefully this will mean we have tennis on the middle Sunday 😉
