BCR Open – Romania – Tues

10:00 – Ventura v Andreev

Rankings are 112 and 43. They have never met.

Ventura is more comfortable on clay and the slow surface will reduce the effectiveness of Andreev’s serve. However Andreev should still be too strong for the Pet Detective.

As they’re on clay 15-40 becomes a good strategy.  I would wait for a 15-40 in Andreev’s favour and let a back bet run to the end of the set. On clay I don’t allow a bet to run into the next set if I can avoid it.

Andreev to win in straight sets.

Update: Ouch! Did Andreev even turn up? Seriously off form today and Ventura won 6-4, 6-1. So i got the result completely wrong but there were several successful 15-40’s in there so should have been a decent profit.

11:30 – Rochus v M Gonzalez

Rankings are 83 and 67. They have never met.

Both players seem to perform better on clay. Betfair has Gonzalez as slight fave at 1.79 but I would favour Rochus in this one. However its not a strong enough opinion to back him from the start and, again 15-40 is the way to trade it.  It could be a very close match with a few breaks.

Update: 3 setter! Rochus took the first set in a tie break but Gonzalez came back strong in the 2nd to take it 6-1. A good fight in the decided with Gonzalez taking it 6-4. Some nice price swings in this one  😉

13:30 – Montanes v Starace

Rankings are 53 and 91. Head to heads are 2-1 in Montanes’ favour.

Both men have been in reasonable form recently and this should be a good battle. Betfair has them pretty much even. For me Montanes has a slight edge here.

On his day Starace can give anyone a game but can be prone to silly errors. Watch how the first 2 or 3 games go and if Montanes seems to be holding serve well, back him and green up at the end of the first set. Alternatively use 15-40.

If you back Montanes make sure you have a strategy for if it goes against you. Its in the members area.

Update: Montanes took a tight first set 6-4 and an easier 2nd 6-2.
