WTA Nottingham, First Round Predictions

These predictions are aimed at traders rather than punters. When assessing a match, I initially look for 2 things. Who do I think will win and how competitive will the other player be?
Use them for straight bets if you wish but please bear in mind that is not what they are intended for.

**For previous rounds, if predictions were correct, I have left them in blue. Corrections are in black.
The number in brackets is the confidence rating out of 10 from the Trading Tips email.

WTA London
Vekic v Raducanu 1.77
Due to start at 1:30 pm

Confidence rating 7/10

1st meeting. Grass win %’s favour Raducanu.

Vekic lost in the 1st round last season. This week, she lost in the qual rounds. 2 sets win in the 1st round. 2 sets win over Bouzkova in the 2nd round. 3 sets win over Pliskova in the q final as underdog. Easy win over Boulter in the semi final.

Raducanu reached the Quarter final last year. Easy win over Blinkova in the 1st round. 2 sets win over Cirstea in the 2nd round. Straight sets win over Rakhimova in the q final. Easy win over Jovic as underdog in the 2nd round.
3rd Round at Wimbledon 2025.

12 month grass stats favour Vekic on serve. Return stats are much better for Raducanu.
Raducanu struggled a little against Rakhimova in the q final. She raised her game against Jovic who wasn’t 100% and had an early mto.
Vekic was superb on serve against Boulter who suffered a let down after her performance against Rybakina in the previous round.
2 matches yesterday for Raducanu will affect her energy level today. if Vekic continues to serve well, she has the edge.
Lay Raducanu around 1.45 and remove liability at 1.90. Good chance of 3 sets.

Match prediction: Vekic in 3 sets.

1-0

Raducanu was broken to 15. I laid Vekic at 1.57.
2-0

Vekic held to 15.
3-0

Raducanu went 0-30 behind. I was concerned that she would be low on energy having played 2 matches the previous day. I hedged for the loss at 1.35. Raducanu got back to 30-30 but was broken.
4-0

Vekic was taken to deuce 3 times but held.
5-0

Raducanu had a medical timeout to have the strapping/ patch adjusted on her leg.
Raducanu was broken to 30.
6-0

Terrible stats for Raducanu. She won just 5 points on serve. It actually isn’t unusual for a player with so few points in the first set to recover in the second set, as long as they were expected to be competitive.
