12:00 – Simon v Querrey
Ranking are 43 and 21. Head to heads are 1-1.
Simon won the recent Metz tournament. His form has been getting steadily better in the last 6 months and is approaching his best.
Querrey hasn’t played since the US Open where he reached the 4th round.
They hold serve 84% and 86%. Querrey isn’t known as a great returner and Simon’s stats on return of serve are slightly better.
They both convert 37% of break point chances.
Simon is the form player so he is my pick to win. However it will be very close and both players will be ok to back on serve. I would watch the opening couple of games before getting involved.
12:30 – Kohlschreiber v Verdasco
Rankings 32 and 9. Head to heads are 4-4.
Kohlschreiber hasn’t had a fantastic season by his standards. He did reach the semi finals at the Metz tournament where he lost to eventual winner Simon.
Verdasco reached the quarter finals of the US Open losing to Nadal. He has had an up and down season and lost last week in the second round to Becker.
Over the last 3 months they have held serve 84% and 81%. Verdasco is slightly better on return of serve and converts more break point chances but the stats are very close.
Verdasco is playing for a place in the ATP Finals at the end of the year so should be motivated. However that didn’t seem to help him too much last week.
This could be quite close especially in the opening set. Both are ok to back on serve.
If we see a tie break then the odds are in Verdasco’s favour.
I expect Verdasco to give a little more effort today and to take the match.
