Not too many games left. The Wozniacki v Pavlyuchenkova game was suspended after Pav won the first set due to a storm. They will complete that today.
Just a few quick thoughts on the games as I am very pressed for time.
Del Potro should be too strong for Chardy. Chardy beat Murray in straight sets. Murray really didn’t look like he wanted to win that match. Normally if he played like that he would have been going barmy with himself. Other than a couple of token racquet bounces and slapping the net after a very poor miss he was very calm.
Another MTO for Del Potro would be nice. Yesterday he called the Doc for a problem with his LEFT wrist and the market went into meltdown. Troicki blew the chance. Even if he is troubled a little by the injury Del Potro will have too much for the Frenchman.
Update: Del Potro won 6-1, 6-3.
Li Na has rode her luck recently. She has played Larsson just once before and lost in 3 sets. 1.22 is worth a lay from the start.
Update: Soon bailled out of that one! Li won 6-2, 6-2.
Cilic has never beaten Djokovic and I don’t think that will change today.
Update: Djokovic won 6-3, 6-2.
Stosur and Venus Williams last played on the Rome clay. Stosur’s serve on that day was terrible and Williams won in straight sets. Stosur has taken some time to readjust to the hard courts but her 3rd round win over Makarova was impressive.
Venus looked very strong against Errani having looked close to collapse in both her previous matches.
I think this will be the game of the day and should be a good battle. As ever Stosur needs her serve to be effective. I’m not sure where Venus found the extra energy from yesterday. Her illness means she doesn’t know how she will feel until she wakes up. I think today is Stosur’s day.
Update: Not quite. Williams won 6-2, 6-7, 6-4.
Serena Williams’ match with Ursula Radwanska was an odd one. She went a break down in the first set and again in the second set. Errors from Radwanska handed both sets to Serena. I’ll be laying her today against Kerber.
Update: Easiest money of the month. As expected Serena didn’t want the win. Her acting skills are terrible. Anyone who watched it knos what I mean.
Kerber won 6-4, 6-4.
Wawrinka played a superb match to beat Ferrer but his serve looked vulnerable against Nishikori. Raonic has been fairly solid on serve all week. He lost the second set to Berdych although I think when he lost his serve in that set he seemed to switch off, perhaps saving energy for the third set.
Raonic to win in 2 tight sets.
Fish has beaten Federer on American hard courts which was in 2008 and his only win over the world number 1. They have played twice since then with Federer winning both in 3 sets.
The way this week has gone I’d say its worth laying Federer but I wouldn’t put too much on it.
