The ATP seem to have remembered where their sport originated. On grass. The grass season is so short that the players really don’t have long to fine tune their games for the low bouncing fast surface in the build up to Wimbledon.
Next season as well as Den Bosch, Stuttgart, Halle and Queens Club there will now be an ATP250 event in Nottingham. This pushes Wimbledon back a week and the main draw action at the All England Club starts on the 29th June. Newport will still take place the week after Wimbledon.
Queens Club and Halle have been upgraded to ATP500 events so the grass season has a lot more points on offer than in previous years. Grass is still the “poor relation” compared to the other surfaces but this move levels things up a little.
