French Open – Men’s Final

Nadal v Federer

Federer finally ended Djokovic’s winning streak. He has certainly got the momentum going into this final but lets not forget this is the French Open. Nadal’s record at Roland Garros is 44 wins from 45 matches. He also has 11 wins from 13 matches against Federer on clay. Nadal has won the last 3 matches against Fed losing just 1 set.

Nadal has saved his best tennis for the latter stages. he hasn’t lost as et since the first round when isner took him to 5 sets. Being a lefthander allows him to push Federer wide on his backhand. Fed’s backhand is stronger than most players but he doesn’t cope well when pushed wide.

I made the mistake with the womens final of going against momentum but Schiavone is no Nadal.  This is another final thats tough to call but I can’t go against Nadal at Roland Garros. This could be as close as he has been to losing a final of the French Open and it certainly won’t be a walkover.

Nadal in 4 sets for me.

Update: Maybe not a classic final but a decent one.

Federer had his chances in the first 2 sets serving for the first set and reaching a tie break in the second. Surprisingly one sided 4th set and Nadal won 7-5, 7-6, 5-7, 6-1.

I thought I was in for a bumper payout in the first set but Fed gave away some of my profit when he couldn’t serve out the set. I had too many distractions to trade the second set and actually didn’t trade at all after the first. Respectable result considering only 1 set traded.
