French Open – Thursday

12:00 – Ljubicic v Fish

Rankings are 16 and 97. Head to heads are 2-1 to Ljubicic. They haven’t played for 3 years and never on clay.

Fish has found a little form recently which makes me a little slower to dismiss his chances ( how can you take a player seriously when they’re called Mardy Fish! For non English readers the word mardy can be used instead of sulky or miserable). He wins 78% of his service games.

Ljubicic wins 88% of his service games. He won the BNP Paribas Open in March beating Roddick in the final, Nadal in the semis and Djokovic in the 4th round.

Back Ljubicic on serve.

15:00 – Seppi v Kohlschreiber

Rankings are 66 and 35. Head to heads are 1-1. They have never played on clay.

Both players are fairly consistent servers with a first serve percentage over 60.

Kohlschreiber wins 81% of his service games.

Based on recent results Kohlschreiber is a strong favourite. Either back him on serve or from the start. I’d expect him to make fewer unforced errors than the Italian and if the match goes close he has more experience to call upon.

  1. hi! i would advise not to back ljubicic on serve, because he is carrying a back injury, and it’s bothering him. he says he feels it all the time, one day it doesn’t bother him all that much, but one day it bothers him and hurts him quite a lot. the doctors said that this could last up to a year, and that he’ll just have to learn to live with it and the ocasional pain…

against lu he put in 180km/h serves, he was saving himself, but he admitted that with that kind of serving he won’t be able to beat fish. it is best to avoid this one, especially backing ljubicic on serve.
