Ernesto Escobedo 1.89, Christopher O’Connell 2.00
Due to start at 9 pm.
This will be their first meeting. Overall results favour O’Connell in 2019.
This is only O’Connell’s 2nd indoor tournament. He has been in excellent form on hard court recently. Last month he won a Challenger title and also made the semi finals the following week in Las Vegas. He lost to Pospisil indoors last week in Charlottesville. This week he struggled a little with his serve against Kevin King in the first round but served much better in his win over Polansky. He was broken just once and won 76% of points on his first serve.
Escobedo was also a losing semi finalist in Las Vegas. His first 2 matches this week were very tight. He needed 2 tie breaks to get past Aragone in the 1st round and was put under a lot of pressure in his 3 sets win over Vatutin. American Jeffrey John Wolf had had an excellent week but was beaten in straight sets.
Stats for the tournament favour O’Connell in everything except service holds. Escobedo leads that stat 87% v 80%. We have some value on O’Connell. Lay Escobedo around 1.60 and remove liability at 2.20.
There is a good chance of 3 sets. I give O’Connell the edge to win.
