London Olympics, 28th July

Liquidity isn’t great yet but I’m sure it will improve. Its not often we have a full schedule on a Saturday.

How are Murray’s chances? He doesn’t have an easy draw. Wawrinka will get him warmed up but shouldn’t give too much resistance. Maybe Gasquet in the third round and Berdych in the quarter final. If he gets through to the semi final its Djokovic. So I think he has a realistic chance of Bronze but if he is going to reach the final he is going to have to do it the hard way.

Lots of games today so just brief thoughts on a few of them.

Petzschner  has replaced Karlovic who pulled out with a foot injury. Petz plays Lacko who he has beaten in all 3 of their previous matches. Grass will suit Petzschner more than Lacko who prefers hard courts. I’d prefer a little higher price before getting fully involved but the German looks a decent favourite.

Update: Petzschner won 7-6, 6-1.

Pennetta hasn’t played since she was dumped out in the first round of Wimbledon by Giorgi. She leads the head to heads with Cirstea 2-1 and won their last 2 matches. Cirstea reached the semi finals of the Bank of the West Classic a couple of weeks ago and was hitting the ball well. I think Pennetta may struggle today and Cirstea will take it in 3.

Update: Pennetta is back in some sort of form. She won 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.

Denis Istomin has managed to win just 1 set against Verdasco in their three matches. Both men had good runs at Wimbledon with Istomin reaching the 4th round and Verdasco the third. This should be close. Verdasco’s matches are never straight forward and I think this match will provide us with a lot of swings. I will be looking to lay Istomin at 1.65ish.

Update: A serve dominated match with just 1 break.

Istomin won 6-4, 7-6.
