What a day yesterday! Djokovic out. Gasquet, Isner, Raonic were also dumped out. Unfortunately two of those were among my picks.
Lepchenko has been in decent form on the clay. A win over McHale, a 3 set loss to Venus and this week a win over Roberta Vinci.
Today’s opponent is Goerges who won her first round match comfortably in straight sets against Jovanovski. Her own form hasn’t ben quite so good and her health hasn’t been 100%.
Goerges won their last match but lepchenko leads the head to heads 2-1 including their only previous meeting on clay.
I think this one will e close but I am favouring Lepchenko. She starts at 1.70 and I will be waiting to back her above evens.
Update: That was a waste of a post. Goerges withdrew before the match.
Laura Robson is the last match this evening. She plays Ivanovic who easily won her last match.
Robson of course beat Radwanska in her second round match. Her form before this week has been disappointing to say the least. Her serve has been well below par. It has been better this week and in particular her points won on second serve have been excellent.
They have played just once before which was a couple of years ago when Robson was ranked 146. Ivanovic won that in straight sets.
Ivanovic is a very tough opponent and especially so on clay. She starts as favourite at 1.30 but I expect that to trade higher. A confident Robson can make a match of this but a price above 1.60 should be a great entry on Ivanovic.
Update: Value at 1.60 turned out to be well wide of the mark. Both players were broken at the start of the match but there would be no more breaks until a late one gave Robson the set. Ivanovic took the match into a third but it was Robson who took an early lead. Her serve was letting her down too often and vanovic came back again. The match was settled in a tie break where once again Robson had the early lead. She couldn’t hold on and it was another double fault that finally gave Ivanovic the match.
Ivanovic won 5-7, 6-2, 7-6.
