Madrid Open – Tuesday

12:00 – Hanescu v Andreev

Rankings are 38 and 50. Head to heads are 3-2 to Andreev ( 2-1 to Hanescu on clay).

Hanescu has been fairly consistent during the clay season and reached the final at the Grand Prix Hassan II event. His first serve percentage is high at 72% and he wins 80% of his service games.

Andreev hasn’t enjoyed much success so far although he has been a little unlucky with opponents sucj as Cilic, Gasquet and Monaco. He did reach the quarter finals last week losing to Sam Querrey.

His first serve hasn’t been working too well but he has still managed to win 75% of his service games.

I expect Hanescu to win. Back him on serve.

Update: Hanescu wins 3-6, 6-5 ( Andreev retired with an ankle injury)

21:00 – Nalbandian v Berdych

Rankings are 150 and 16. Head to heads are 4-1 to Nalbandian.

Nalbandian has played just one clay tournament this year which was Monte Carlo. He beat Youzhny and Robredo before losing to Djokovic in the quarter final.

Berdych has played well on clay this season beating Gasquet and Lopez. He took two in-form players in Verdasco and Wawrinka to three sets.

Berdych wins 87% of his service games. Back him on serve. As Nalbandian starts below 2.00 ( 1.89) you would be advised to lay him on Berdych’s serve. If the service game goes against you it will be easier to exit the trade on Nalbandian’s ladder.

I’d expect the market to adjust itself during the opening games and Berdych will drop below 2.00 even without a break.

Update: Both players pulled out before the match with leg injuries!
