Match Picks Thursday 8th July

Looking at the games for today its difficult to pick one where the outcome can be predicted! Dustin Brown, ranked 108 beat Sam Querrey in his own back yard in straight sets. Defending champion Ram was a break up in the third set and lost in a tie break.

I think in today’s matches its worth backing Brown AND Dabul on serve but I would use lower stakes until the course of the match is a little more certain.

Rochus has been playing well and even though Klaasen served well in his match against Ram he isn’t used to being around towards the end of the week. Back Rochus on serve.

Now let’s try to make some sense of the WTA games. Did I really just type that………….?

Swedish Open

10:00 – Zahlavova Strycova v Safarova

Rankings are 54 and 25. Head to heads are 1-0 to Safarova.

Safarova starts at 1.40 and has been in decent form recently. Whilst she has a lower first serve percentage than her opponent she wins more points on serve.

Strycova seems to have difficulty playing left handers. She also played quite late yesterday and had a tough 3 set match.

Safarova made a poor start in her last match against Sprem but sorted herself out to make it through. She played first yesterday so has had a little more time to recover than Strycova.

Safarova’s serve could be the difference today. She served 8 aces yesterday.

Scalping and 15-40 should work well. I’d expect Safarova to come through but it could be close.

Update: Safarova won 6-4, 7-6.

GDF Suez Grand Prix

13:30 – Cornet v Bacsinszky

Rankings are 84 and 39. Head to heads are 1-0 to Bacsinszky which was also on clay in April this year.

Cornet has lost 4 of her last 5 matches. Bacsinszky’s ranking is moving steadily upwards. She serves a little more consistently although has a tendency to throw a few points away.

Cornet seems to have lost a lot of her focus and appears to prefer partying to practicing.

Bacsinszky to win in straight sets. Again, scalping and 15-40 are recommended.

Update: Bacszinszky was very poor in the opening set but woke up in the second. However Cornet played some great tennis and won the match 6-0, 6-4.
