Monday 23rd July

Not long until the Olympics kick off. Excited? No me neither. Another story in the Sunday papers about security staff.  Stewards being given false NVQ certificates with no training. The course should take up to 12 months to complete. On their first morning they were told they’d be done by 6pm. God help the spectators if there is a serious incident.

Anyway, onto today’s top class matches.

Volandri seems too low at 1.48 against Giannessi. They played in April with Volandri winning in 2 close sets. Giannessi showed some decent form in Sweden recently beating Berrer in 3 sets. Worth a lay I think. Volandri’s serve is nothing special although he is able to produce some great ground strokes at times. This should be a close match.

Update: the initial lay worked very well as Giannessi took the first set 6-1. However it was Volandri who took the match in 3 sets.

Volandri won 1-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Garcia Lopez is rightly favourite against Zopp but I aren’t comfortable backing at 1.50 . Both have shown solid form in the last couple of weeks. I will be waiting for a higher price rather than laying GGL.

Update: Zopp won 6-1, 6-3.
